Accessibility Statement

My commitment to digital accessibility for all, in plain language.

Accessibility Statement

I'm committed to making this digital porch accessible for everybody—including folks with disabilities. I'm always learning and tinkering to improve the experience (UX for the designers out there) for every visitor, and I'm doing my best to keep up with the latest accessibility standards. If I've missed something, holler at me!

Measures to support accessibility 🔗

  • Accessibility's a core part of my mission and digital philosophy.
  • It's baked into my design, development, and content processes.
  • I regularly review and update the site to fix accessibility issues (usually ones I caused while tinkering 😬).
  • I love feedback and suggestions from all y'all.

Conformance status 🔗

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) lay out what designers and developers should do to make the web more accessible. There are three levels: A, AA, and AAA.

This website aims for WCAG 2.1 and 2.2 Level AAA conformance wherever possible. Some areas might not fully conform (I'm tryin', though!), but just know I'm always working to make things better.

Additional accessibility considerations 🔗

  • Orange's only used for accents—never for big text or backgrounds—so contrast stays strong. I 🧡 orange. If I get carried away, please nudge me to tone it down.
  • Every interactive element's keyboard accessible and has a visible focus state.
  • Skip links are there for navigation, main content, and the footer.
  • Text is always left-justified and content width's optimized for easy reading.
  • No tracking, no creepy cookies, and privacy-first contact methods.

Feedback 🔗

Got feedback? Let me know! I'd love to hear how I can make this digital porch more welcoming for everyone.

I aim to respond within 5 business days. Give me a minute (or several) to reply—some days are busier than others. 🙃

Compatibility with browsers and assistive technology 🔗

This website's built to work with:

  • Modern browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge)
  • Screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA, JAWS)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Mobile and desktop devices

Technical specifications 🔗

Accessibility here relies on:

  • HTML
  • WAI-ARIA
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • Snacks
  • Care (not really tech, but let's pretend)

These are what make the site work for everyone.

Limitations and alternatives 🔗

Even with my best efforts, there might be some hiccups. Please reach out if you spot something not listed here.

Known limitations:

  • Some older posts or third-party embeds might not fully meet AAA standards.
  • Not all content's translated yet, but I'm working on it.

Assessment approach 🔗

I check accessibility by:

  • Self-evaluation and regular manual testing
  • Listening to user feedback
